Fullabrook Mill - 2013 a new beginning

26 years after our last house move the Carr family  have finally decided on  a new adventure, this time in the wilds of North Devon.  Our new destination is the beautiful old 17th century Mill known as Fullabrook.  Nestling in 3 acres of a very green valley near the village of West Down the house includes a very large conservatory, barn, range cooker (one for the ladies) and an oil tank capable of holding ones life savings in liquid asset.

We finally became the new owners of the Mill on the 20th December and Chester and I went down to see the new family homestead.  Our arrival coincided with one of the wettest days of the last 13 years and the little bubbling brook that had tinkled its way past the end of the garden in July when we first viewed the house, had turned into a raging torrent which seemed capable of carrying away a double decker bus.  It seems our move has coincided with the abrupt move of the jetstream which seems likely to turn Devon into the monsoon capital of Europe.  Clearly it is time for a new pair of wellingtons.

Incidentally you wont be able to watch the video if you happen to live in  Devon as the download speed is somewhere in the region of 1MB.

Driving back to St Albans the following day we discovered that our local town Braunton had been virtually swept away by the babbling brook (The River Caen) that runs at the bottom of our garden.  Apparently flood defences were completed last June that should have meant Braunton would only be vulnerable once every 100 years - that's us safe until 2112 then.................

This blog will hopefully detail some of the the more interesting exploits that we undertake and will hopefully act as both a bit of light reading for friends and family.  Failing that it will at least act as an ongoing diary to remind us of all those exciting times that are just around the corner.

  2. My Lerwill ancestor occupied Fullabrook Mill in the late 18th c. until about 1793. I don't have a photo of him - unfortunately! :-D
